The Gabriola Recreation Society was established in February 2002. The Society administers a variety of recreation services and programs to the residents of Gabriola Island through an agreement with the Regional District of Nanaimo. The Society operates as a non-profit organization with some local autonomy and authority through the Societies Act to administer the services on behalf of the Regional District.
The Gabriola Recreation Society unites recreation professionals and interested citizens to enhance their leadership in meeting the recreational needs of all Gabriolans.
We believe that recreation is essential to individual, family and community health and well-being.
We are here to help!
Gabriola Recreation Society Board
The Gabriola Recreation Society is a non-profit organization operated by a volunteer Board of Directors and a part-time staff person.
The Board is comprised of 9 members from the community, plus the local RDN Director or their appointee.
Meetings are held once/month, usually on the second Thursday, upstairs at Robert’s restaurant.
Through a services agreement with the RDN, the Recreation Society is contracted to provide, promote and support a variety of recreational activities on Gabriola Island, including a grants-in-aid program. The Society reports all activities annually to the RDN, and at other times during the year as directed.
