ExpiredYoga Day

Yoga is for every body and a known benefit to mental health. GRS is honoured to offer this free, full day of classes in support of Mental Health Week, May 1 – 7.  Format/content varies. Duration for each class is 30 – 55 minutes. Yoga mats available, or bring your own.

Classes aimed at beginners; suitable for all. Everyone welcome.

 9 a.m. – Flo Dedame
Start your day with one of Gabriola’s senior yogis, and teacher at/owner of Vijnana Yoga Centre. For Flo, yoga is a return to wholeness. The practice of Vijnana Yoga offers movement as powerful medicine, liberation through breathing, and understanding from the inside the mystery and beauty of being alive.

 10 a.m. – Carolyn Avery-Moore
Carolyn has been practicing, studying and teaching yoga for over 30 years, offering classes out of her home studio on the Strand. Her class is Yoga for Backs, with an emphasis on the prevention of back problems. Learn to stretch and strengthen your back to improve posture and alleviate discomfort.

11 a.m. – Amy Block
Join in a restorative and comfortable Asana practice. Learn how your body reacts to movement. Discover ways to promote healing, encourage flexibility, and how to stretch using your body and mind in unison. Experience how the breath heals and supports you through daily activities. Amy offers Yoga for Life classes at PHC, Tuesdays 9:30 – 11 a.m.

12 p.m. – Karin Young
Karin is a certified Iyengar teacher, with over 20 years of experience helping people of all ages and abilities. In her teaching, Karin’s understanding of the connection of the body and mind bring a steadiness of body and clarity of mind to her students. She offers classes at her Rise and Shine studio on Stephens Road.

1 p.m. – Laura Handford
Laura will lead a beginners slow flow class, aimed at moving with ease. Develop stronger alignment, reduce tension, discover your natural breath. Laura teaches Move with Ease classes for absolute beginners at Vijnana Yoga Centre.

2 p.m. – Judy White
A devoted practitioner for over 15 years, Judy teaches Saturday classes at Vijnana Yoga Centre – Rise and Shine, and Vinyasa Flow. Her focus is for participants to find alignment in their postures by listening to the internal body.

4:30 – 6 p.m. – Yoga for Recovery: with Kelly Price (full)
An ongoing program with a trauma sensitive approach that addresses the physical, psychological and spiritual challenges of addiction recovery. Also beneficial for people dealing with psychological traumas, eating disorders, anxiety and depression. Kelly teaches at the Haven, and Rose Crystal Studio.
