The Gabriola
Recreation Society was established in February 2002. The Society
administers a variety of recreation services and programs to the residents
of Gabriola Island through an agreement with the Regional District of Nanaimo. The Society operates as a non-profit organization
with some local autonomy and authority through the Societies Act to administer
the services on behalf of the Regional District.
The Society
is composed of nine directors. They are elected by members of the Society
at its Annual General Meeting. Announcements regarding the next Annual General
Meeting or Special Meeting will be posted on our web site and the time and
date will be advertised in the newspapers two weeks prior. Board members
meet once a month to deal with Society business at the The Portable at Rollo McClay sport field.
To be a
voting member of the Society, you have to be a resident of Gabriola, registered
on the island voting list, and be at least 19 years of age.
